There is nothing like watching the rise and feeling the take of the fly by a trout on the clear streams of the Pocono Mountains.
Take hold of the opportunity to catch wild and stocked brown trout, rainbow trout and brook trout. Fish the classic Pocono streams, or walk and wade the beautiful Lehigh River above and below Francis Walters Dam. The western Poconos allow access to other great flyfishing areas including the limestorne creeks of
the Lehigh Valley near Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Ken Mead is a life-long Pennsylvania fisherman who has spent most of his adult life in the Pocono Mountains. A licensed fly fishing guide since 2004, Ken has extensive knowledge of the Pocono streams and their hatches. Ken's original fly patterns include some of the Pocono regions most popular flies including the Ken’s Copperhead, his Arctic Fox streamer series, Ken’s Caddis, and the Exploding Caddis. Ken has fished extensively throughout the United States and Canada and has adapted patterns from those journeys with great success here at home. He is a board member of the Lehigh Coldwater Fishery Alliance. (thelehighriver.org)
Located within a few hours of both New York City and
Philadelphia, fly fishing the beautiful Pocono mountain waters is the perfect getaway. We offer half day and full day guided fly fishing trips for trout and fly-fishing instruction in the Pocono Mountains and Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. Generally, the season runs from April through November but there may be limited opportunities to fish the winter months if the weather is warmer. Since many of our streams are freestone, summer fishing may be limited to certain streams but typically we can find areas to fish.
No matter your level of experience, Ken can tailor the trip to your needs or organize the day to include a fly fishing lesson before hitting the water. Fly casting lessons are also available.
Ken's Copperhead, pictured above, is just one of the original fly patterns created by Ken Mead. Ken’s flies have appeared in the book Trout Flies of the East by Jim Schollmeyer and Ted Leeson. He is a featured tyer in Marty Bartholomew’s book Tying Flies like a Pro. He was a member of A.K. Best's pro staff and a long time guest fly tyer at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum. He has also been published in the Mid-Atlantic Fly Fishing Guide. Ken has tied for numerous local fly shops in the region including many years working for Barry and Cathy Beck’s shop Fishing Creek Outfitters.
Ken offers fly tying lessons to all levels of enthusiast from the beginner to the advanced tyer. There is nothing better than catching a trout on your own fly. Just call for details.
You will need current PA trout fishing license (see www.fish.state.pa.us/license.html), chest waders with non-slip soles, and appropriate clothing for the day. We can provide fly fishing rods with reels.
